Masters of Science in Physics
Our Department offers a 2-year regular M. Sc. program since 2006, where students join through the Joint Admission Test for MSc (JAM) conducted by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) every year on a rotational basis on behalf of the Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India.
The program nurtures students interested in pursuing higher studies in theoretical and experimental Physics. Therefore, the course structure is designed accordingly, with many compulsory and elective courses. The course structure enables students to learn fundamental Physics to advanced level Physics courses, including many specialized areas like Biophysics, High Energy Physics, Quantum Computation and Information, String Theory, Astrophysics and Cosmology, Nanotechnology, Nonlinear Optics, Advanced Energy Materials and Devices, Many body problems, Numerical methods and Programming, Ultrafast Science, etc. As part of the curriculum, the students are engaged in laboratory courses to learn various experimental techniques. The course also offers a one-semester full-time research project on a research topic chosen by the student itself under the guidance of a faculty member. Our state-of-the-art laboratories provide the students with the ultimate technical proficiency and research opportunities.
The graduates of our M. Sc. program have won accolades at national and international levels. Many have obtained Ph.D. positions in prestigious universities in India and abroad. Besides, a few of our graduates also got jobs at various companies with excellent pay packages. Nevertheless, the toppers of this program are being awarded gold medals by the institute.
