This research group seeks scientific answers to
emerging water, climate, and environmental issues. Currently, we focus on
(a) remote sensing of hydroclimatic and
environmental hazards.
(b) advanced modelling of extreme weather
events under changing climate, and
(c) water quality assessment and modelling.

Assistant Professor
Shushobhit is working as Assistant Professor at the Indian Institute of Technology (Indian School of Mines), Dhanbad. He pursued his PhD and masters from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi, India. He holds a bachelor's degree from National Institute of Technology Allahabad. He is a hydro-climatologist & environmentalist committed to enhance the understanding of the fundamental mechanisms driving natural disasters, to better model and mitigate them.
Research Scholar
Sudarshan is pursuing PhD at IIT (ISM) Dhanbad after receiving his master's degree from NIT Jaipur. His doctoral research focuses on the quantification and evolution of ecological droughts over India.
Research Scholar
Farrukh is a doctoral candidate at IIT ISM Dhanbad, having completed his master’s and PG Diploma from Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi. He is working on understanding the evolution and propagation of heatwaves in India.
Shushobhit and Prof. Vittal H's research group found an east–west asymmetry in heatwave severity, duration, and frequency over Northern India. This study provides insights into Northern India heatwaves and their causes, which is essential for designing regional adaption plans across India. Read More
Sudarshan presented his work titled ""Analyzing the Effects of Meteorological Drought on Vegetation Cover across India" in National Conference on Emerging Trend in Earth Sciences (ETES), Dhanbad, 27-29 Sept. 2024.
