IIT (ISM) Dhanbad has adopted various measures to meet the broader goal of environmental sustainability and resource efficiency, aligning with national missions like Jal Shakti Abhiyan and Smart Campus Initiatives.

Key Initiatives Undertaken

  • Rooftop Harvesting Systems are installed on academic and hostel buildings.
  • Collected rainwater is directed to recharge pits to replenish groundwater levels.
  • Helps in reducing dependence on municipal water supply during dry months.

  • The campus operates Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) to treat wastewater.
  • Treated water is reused for landscaping, gardening, and flushing, reducing fresh water use.

  • Regular inspection and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems.
  • Prompt repair of leakages and overflow taps to minimize water wastage.

  • Campaigns by Student Gymkhana and Department of Environmental Science & Engineering to raise awareness about water conservation.
  • Posters, seminars, and competitions to promote responsible water use.
