Rosaline is the largest girls’ hostel in the campus. It is a 10-storey building offering spacious rooms provided to the students on a twin-sharing basis. The hostel is equipped with high speed elevators and a high speed internet facility, along with Central AC in common areas. In addition, the facilities of vanity shops and canteens are also there. There are two different parts of Rosaline hostel namely New Rosaline with a capacity of about 880 girl students and the other is Old Rosaline with a capacity of 400 girls. Both of them are fully equipped with mess facilities accompanied by fully furnished and hygienic dining halls. Adding to these, a gym is also available solely for its residents. When it comes to sports, the hostel also boasts of a volleyball court, a badminton court and a table tennis court.
The Ruby hostel, consisting of 115 rooms, is exclusively meant for accommodating the girl students of the university. Established on August 1 1989 with only thirteen girls, this hostel now has 184 residents. The hostel consists of five buildings named Ruby Hostel-1, 2 and the new Annexure building. The hostel buildings are located in close proximity to one another as well as to the classrooms for convenient access and easy commute. There are excellent living conditions in the rooms and all the rooms are equipped with the necessary furniture and high speed internet facility. Each hostel building possesses its own separate mess facility.
The Amber hostel is the second largest boys’ hostel in the campus. With a capacity of around 1600 boys, it is home to the 2nd and 3rd year students of the institute. This four storeyed hostel building provides all kinds of facilities to students ranging from high speed Wi-fi and LAN to various kinds of indoor and outdoor games. A couple of canteens cater to the late-night snack needs of its residents, with two badminton courts available for their recreation. The hostel has a couple of canteens to cater to the late-night snack needs of the students, with a spacious cycle stand near the entrance.

The Diamond Hostel is an eye-soothing centre of attraction of IIT (ISM) Dhanbad. It is the oldest yet one of the best hostels in the campus, housing the final and superfinal year students of various academic programmes. The hostel boasts of typical colonial architecture, rendering it our institute's valuable heritage. It was built in 1926, thus exhibiting an appealing vintage look. It has 15-feet tall rooms with spacious corridors offering a comfortable living to its residents. The hostel also has its own gym facility for the students. It is located at the very centre of the campus, with the lecture hall, canteen and auditorium at just a few paces away.

The Emerald hostel enjoys an alluring location due to its proximity with the New Lecture Hall Complex (NLHC), the Sports Complex, the Central Library and the famous Ramdhani tea shop. Accommodating 400 sophomores, it may not be the biggest of hostels but it keeps up with all the basic amenities available elsewhere. This three-storeyed hostel encompasses a television and table tennis table in all common rooms, a volleyball court and two badminton courts for recreation. LAN ports and high speed Wifi are also available to fulfill connectivity needs of the residents of this hostel.

With a capacity of 2400 students, Jasper stands as the largest hostel in the campus of IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. Comprising of 4 blocks and 5 floors, it is a fully residential boys hostel. Each block has a badminton court, with, with two Table Tennis tables & one TV in each of the the common rooms. The hostel is equipped with high speed Wi-fi and LAN ports. Every block has a fully functional lift, with one, with one common lift for all the blocks. Along with this, each block has 4 stairways and 1 terrace which boasts of a scenic view. There is 24*7 ambulance, electricity and water facility, with a separate cycle stand for those having bicycles. There is a laundry and newspaper facility on daily basis. This hostel serves as a home for all the first year B.Tech. students, M.Tech. students and JRFs.

The Opal It has been one of the prestigious hostels of the institute .The location of the hostel is just in front of the main canteen and hence enjoys considerable reputation amongst the students. This 3-storeyed hostel has a capacity of nearly 400 students and serves as a home for the male JRF's. This hostel is fully equipped with all the basic amenities required by the students. It is well equipped with various facilities for the students which include a television room, courts for various games like volleyball, badminton and table tennis, not to mention the high speed internet facility.

The Sapphire Hostel, comprising of five blocks, is one of the best hostels of IIT(ISM) Dhanbad. It is the most favourite and popular boys’ hostel of the institute. The rooms of this hostel are the most spacious and luxurious. This palace-like hostel is allotted to the Final year B.Tech. students.It has a long-majestic-rounded balcony in front of its rooms. The hostel has its own basketball court for recreation and a gym for the fitness freaks. The majestic view of this hostel is surely one to behold. This hostel is equipped with two LAN ports in each room and a a high speed Wi-fi facility.

Topaz is a three-storeyed 2nd year B.Tech boys’ hostel where students have the facility to enjoy various indoor games, in addition to a television in each of the common rooms and badminton courts for recreation. High-speed internet facilities are also available. The hostel is also facilitated with a canteen for providing quick late-night snacks to its residents. The double-floored building standing in front of the Student Activity Centre (SAC) has had the privilege of serving students of different departments for several years.
